Criminal Defense Cases

In 2001, Sal Bazaz began his career as a criminal prosecutor in Staten Island, New York. It was there that he specialized in sex crimes and domestic violence. In January 2002, Sal relocated to southwest Florida where he immediately began working in the Lee County State Attorney’s office, prosecuting a full range of crimes, including DUI, drug possession, theft, and domestic violence cases. In January 2003, Sal was transferred to the Collier County State Attorney’s office and remained there until the fall of 2003.

20 years of Jury Trial Experience

As a prosecutor, Sal gained valuable insight and knowledge of the internal workings of this government office. These are the people that will be attempting to prosecute you. Sal has worked alongside the people who want to take your freedom away. Sal developed both good working relationships with the prosecutors and the tenacity to take on the state attorney’s office to assist you in receiving a fair trial.

Immediately upon leaving the state attorney’s office, Sal opened the Law Office of Sal Bazaz, representing the residents of southwest Florida. Since 2003, he has handled cases ranging from smaller misdemeanors such as petit theft, to rape and attempted murder. What to Expect: Criminal Case

If you are facing a criminal charge in southwest Florida, you can expect a legal system that delivers fairness, justice, and factual accuracy through a professional and well-organized process. The legal system in Southwest Florida puts a great emphasis on the protection of the rights of defendants, and you can be sure that your case will be handled with the utmost respect and attention.

Nevertheless, when facing a criminal charge, it is important to be prepared. We understand that the legal system proceedings may be daunting. It is important to understand the phases in order to navigate the process efficiently. Generally, proceedings begin with an arraignment, where the court informs you of the charges, the consequences, and your legal rights.  At this stage, the defendant will enter a plea of either guilty or not guilty. If the defendant enters a plea of not guilty, further criminal proceedings, such as a pre-trial hearing, a jury selection, and ultimately a trial, will take place. In each proceeding, both the prosecution and the defense will present their cases and a verdict will be rendered. Depending on the outcome of the trial, sentencing, and/or a period of rehabilitation may follow.
